Preparing for a Tattoo
Before coming in for your tattoo, please make sure you’ve had a full meal and plenty of water. Your body is about to undergo an intense change and you want to be in your optimal state! Also, moisturizing is so important, it makes my job much easier if you treat your skin well. Please also keep in mind that alcohol and caffeine thin your blood, make sure not to consume heavy alcohol the previous night/day before and do not have caffeine the day of our appointment. It will make my job easier and your experience better if your body is healthy and ready for a new tat!

If you are experiencing any sickness beforehand or in the coming week, please make me aware of your health concerns. This is a very close-contact procedure, which makes both of us very susceptible to one another’s ailments. If you are sick or feeling unwell, please let me know in advance and we can reschedule our appointment! I keep my client’s health in my best-interest and hope they do the same for me.

Second Skin is the clear bandage I generally apply after each tattoo. I recommend you keep that on for 2-5 days. You can shower with the bandage on and live your life! Just avoid any strenuous/sweaty activity in this duration. If we did not use second skin, go straight to cleaning.

Allergic to adhesives? Let me know before we bandage you up! I can use an alternative form of protection. If the second skin is causing you any irritation, such as itching, burning or redness, remove it asap and clean your tattoo.
Cleaning a tattoo is quite simple, like washing your face. Don’t use any abrasive substances or motions. Lather non-scented, anti-bacterial soap in circular motions gently on your tattoo. When showering, avoid using a loofa or scented body soap. I generally wash my tattoos morning and night.
Drying a tattoo should be done with a single-use paper towel only. PAT dry! Do not rub! Using a regular bath cloth can cause possible infection.
For the first two weeks…
Moisturize your tattoo with a simple, non-scented lotion. I often advise against any ointments, as too much can pull ink from the skin or muddy the design. Moisturize twice a day along with washing!
Sunlight will damage your tattoo over-time and especially during the first two weeks of healing! For the first two weeks, it is important that you keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight. After that period, sunblock your tattoos whenever going out in the sun! Ink ages like your skin, the more you protect it-the better it will age.

Pets are also a danger to your new tattoo. If you live in close proximity to animals, make sure to keep their dander away from your open skin for the first two weeks. Wear clean, breathable clothing which protects your new tattoo. Pet dander can cause infections which may become serious.
